One of the ways that black metal has been growing it’s dark, sinister sounds over recent years is by the incorporation of elements from styles like hardcore, crust punk and grind. The blackened hardcore / crust style seems to have exploded in Europe with bands adopting the style in their own unique ways. When the descriptor for Hexis read “blackened hardcore from Copenhagen”, my mind was already expecting something along the lines of Ancst. But Hexis is an entirely different beast with a sound that is much more suffocating and blackened compared to its peers. The band’s second full length release titled ‘Tando Ashanti’, out now on Halo of Flies and Alerta Antifascista, is easily one of the darkest and most depraved releases we’ve had from this sub sect of black metal yet.
